Weekend at The Prix de West

I made it up to Oklahoma City, to see the Prix de West.  I thought it was a great show, and I spent hours enjoying the great art on display.  I especially like evaluating composition, and checking out techniques.  It was at a Prix de West that I first saw Curt Walters work in person.  And his work inspired me to start painting The Grand Canyon.  Now there are many artists that inspire my path in art, but of course it is the scene in front of you that inspires the most!  I do suggest that if you are not able to make the show in person, then check it out online at  www.nationalcowboymuseum.org .  I had a lovely time and was able to make the day of it with a friend and 2nd double cousin, Debra.  We shared about family, life and the artwork.

Time...

Well, I am out of time again! There is just so much to get done, and I have not really finished any of the things I am working on. I am trying to get some pictures formatted for submission, and that has not been very smooth (did finish one), but there have been some other high notes for today. The picture I did get formatted is the painting for this blog, Glorious Grand Canyon. This painting has been juried into the Bosque Classic. A wonderful show here in Texas, and this is the third year in a row that I have been Accepted. Yee Haa! I really enjoy attending this show, but especially when I have works entered! I also got the submission forms for two paintings that were juried into Colorado Mile High Pastel show, and found out that My entries for another show were not accepted, but this was a good thing as I had entered one painting into two shows. I will be sure to not make that mistake again! Hope you enjoy Glorious Grand Canyon and make it to the Bosque classic in th fall!

Prickly Path

I love cactus, as long as it is not in my pasture! This cactus was from somewhere in Arizona a few years ago. I was especially drawn to the shadows and light play from this early morning view. I choose this topic today as I was thinking about the prickly path of this blog. I am feeling my way, trying to enjoy the process, and hoping to produce something enjoyable to the audience as well. Of course I am trying to avoid those prickly barbs along the way. I am reminded how all of life can be a prickly path whether is is at work, with friends or family relationships. Perhaps the key to all these paths is to be able to enjoy the beauty along these prickly paths!

Early Influences

Everyone is of course influence by their mother, I just happened to have had a talented artist for an early influence.  There are so many stories to tell, which I will relate some later, but now I just want to share one of my favorites of my mother's work.  This oil was done in the 60's by my mother, Winifred Bozeman, titled Daffodils.

Starting Out.

Many years of ago I did a sculpture titled "Starting Out". It was of a foal getting up for the first time, legs all over but you can tell that the foal is getting up this time. I gave the one of a kind sculpture to a friend for a wedding gift. Thought it was really a good match. (The marriage was not and was annuled later, and alas, the sculpture has been lost.) So I feel like that foal 'starting out' writing a blog about my art journey. I know that this journey will have a better outcome than my friends marriage! I suspect that I will have falls and missteps as any foal, but just as that foal I am determined to make a go of this endeavor. Hopefully one day I will be an old hand at blogging, which leads me to the painting of an old hand titled "Golden Retirement". Enjoy!
